Glove Stories: Jennie
In these three short films Jennie Hobbs talks about working in Dent & Allcroft's glove factory at Pilton in Barnstaple between 1939 and 1969.
In the first film: Jennie and the Glove Making Process, Jennie tells us about the glove making process at the Pilton Glove Factory.
The second film: Jennie - Factory, Fields and Houses, Jennie talks about the history of the Pilton glove factory in Barnstaple. She mentions how the factory passed from owner to owner - Baylis, Reavell & Dent and how, in the early days, skins were dried in the fields above the factory - now Nursery End.
The third film: Jennie - Socials, Savings, a Green Dress and the School Maypole we hear about Jennie's work in the office at Pilton Glove Factory. She tells us about the social events, the savings scheme, what happened to her lovely green dress and how the maypole dancing in the school next door made her want to throw things!
These short films are part of North Devon Moving Image's Glove Stories project - recording stories of the glove making industry in north Devon.
